Saudi Arabia has dreamt up plans to develop into a massive oil rig in the Persian Gulf into a luxurious vacation hotspot. If you aren't into excessive thrills, there will probably be extra gentle attractions. It looks as if there shall be a Ferris wheel, go-karts, water slides, arenas, theaters, and scuba diving.

But how would you get to an offshore lodge and theme park? Well, The Rig is out there by means of ferry, cruise, and helicopter. Those with a private yacht can find plenty of berths to dock at.

Not everybody turns out so captivated with the mission. Gizmodo has accused The Rig of in some way bordering on 'making oil rigs look cool', and feel 'interesting', in spite of their environmental impact.
